NCPMA Raises More Than $21,000 at 4th Annual Bug Cup Charity Golf Tournament

The North Carolina Pest Management Association (NCPMA) hosted its 4th Annual Bug Cup Charity Golf Tournament on Sept. 30, at Jamestown Park Golf Course in Jamestown, N.C. The event brought together more than 110 golfers and 20 volunteers for a day of golf, networking, and fundraising in support of the NCPMA Extension Program Endowment in Honor of Mike Waldvogel.

“We may have faced the threat of rain this week, but the 2025 Bug Cup went off without a hitch! A huge thank you to our sponsors, players and volunteers for making this year’s tournament in Jamestown one to remember. We are thrilled to have raised more than $21,000 to benefit NCPMA Charities,” said Kyle Franklin, Chair of the NCPMA Endowment Committee.

The captain’s choice format provided golfers with multiple opportunities for fun and competition, including long drive contests, closest to the pin, putting, and two hole-in-one contest holes offering a chance at $10,000. Players also enjoyed complimentary coffee from a morning coffee cart, on-course snacks and beverages, and a BBQ lunch following the round.

This year’s event raised more than $21,000 for the NCPMA Extension Program Endowment in Honor of Mike Waldvogel at North Carolina State University, which supports ongoing research and extension projects at North Carolina State University (NCSU) that directly benefit the pest management industry. Since its inception in 2022, the Bug Cup has raised more than $70,000 for the Endowment. An additional $700 was raised at the tournament for other NCPMA charities including North Carolina PestVets and the North Carolina Chapter of the Professional Women in Pest Management (NCPWIPM).

In addition, the tournament was preceded by the first-ever Bug Cup Kickoff Party at Topgolf Greensboro, hosted by Waterproof Supply, which raised an additional $2,000 in support of NCPMA initiatives.

Dr. Carolyn Young, Head of the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at NCSU, and Dr. Chris Hayes, NCSU Extension Associate – Structural Pest Management, were on hand to represent NCSU. Dr. Hayes noted, “It was a premier showing of the commitment and connection NCPMA has to support the ongoing work and research at NC State University that benefits the pest control industry. Funds that were raised enable the continued research and advancement of projects that directly support NCPMA and its members.”

The success of the Bug Cup was made possible by the support of more than 30 sponsors, including pest management companies, distributors, and manufacturers. XRAI Labs served as this year’s Title Sponsor.

Since its beginning, the Bug Cup has become a signature event for the association, highlighting not only fundraising impact but also the camaraderie and industry connections that strengthen NCPMA’s mission.
