Association recognizes two technicians with statewide honor
Raleigh, N.C. – The North Carolina Pest Management Association (NCPMA) awarded Eden’s Roger Wheatley with its prestigious 2009 Technician of the Year award for his outstanding work as one of the state’s top technicians for pest management in the pest control phase.
“Roger’s excellent customer service and dedication to his craft made him an obvious choice for the Technician of the Year award,” said Dana McDuffie of McDuffie Pest Control in Elizabethtown and a board member of the NCPMA. “Roger has obtained a level of knowledge about pest management practices and products that help him treat his customers’ problems quickly and efficiently.”
Currently a pest technician with Terminix Co., Wheatley has worked in pest management for 25 years. In addition to serving as a pest technician, he has worked as a route supervisor. He has been recognized as a member of the Terminix President’s Club and serves as a mentor and trainer for fellow technicians.
NCPMA presents two Technician of the Year awards each year to technicians who exemplify the best qualities of pest management professionals within their companies. The two Technician of the Year awards are given each year to technicians in the pest management phase and wood destroying phase.
Dennis Foster of Go-Forth Pest Management, Inc., in High Point received the second Technician of the Year award this year for the wood destroying insect phase.
Winners of the Technician of the Year Award receive a $500 savings bond and plaque announcing the award. Both awards were announced at the NCPMA’s General Membership meeting at the Mid-Atlantic Conference in Savannah, Ga., in August 2009. Foster and Wheatley will officially receive their awards at the Opening Session of the 2010 Pest Control Technician’s School in Raleigh that will be held in January 2010.
Technicians of the Year are chosen based on the applicant’s demonstration of leadership among peers, excellent customer relations, knowledge of his/her job, superior job performance and the ability to successfully handle problems on the job. All applicants must be members of NCPMA, have at least two years of experience in either the pest management or wood destroying insect phase and must be nominated by a person in a leadership role in his or her company.
